Writing can be extremely rewarding, and extremely challenging. For some, the most challenging aspect of writing is getting enough quality material down on paper in a limited amount of time. If you’re concerned about meeting your publisher’s deadlines or you are afraid of losing your inspiration, here are a few ways to get your book written 10 pages at a time.

Tip # 1: Keep to a Schedule

One of the best ways to write at least 10 pages a day is to get on a set schedule. Start at the same time every day, and make sure you write for the same amount of time each day. That way, you’ll be able to get used to working within that certain time span, which will allow you to budget your time more effectively.

Tip # 2: Organize Everything

The classic image of a writer is someone with piles of loose paper scattered over their desks, crumpled paper on the floor and a half-chewed pencil behind their ear. In most cases, however, successful writers are far from this image. Most writers who successfully produce over ten pages a day are highly organized. Before you begin, it’s a very good practice to have a detailed outline of your book, with the details in a very readable format. Some use index cards, while others rely on their computer or mind mapping to organize their materials. It doesn’t matter how you organize, but it is important that you do. (And if you’re like me, your desk is still a mess, but you can still find all your book notes quickly and efficiently.)

Tip # 3: Start with a Dirty Draft

Remember that writing is a process. It involves a lot of editing, revision and of course first time writing. The whole process begins with writing, and it’s always a good idea to get something down on paper. So even if it isn’t exactly what you want to say, don’t worry, the editing process will polish it into the art form you want. Plus, if you’re not worried about the exactness of the prose, you can concentrate on getting the material down on the page and reaching your 10-page quota will be quite easy. (Hint: Turn off your spell check during the Dirty Draft phase of writing!)

These are just a few tips that you can use to easily write 10 pages a day. There are quite a few more, and each writer will have to find which ones work best for him or her. The trick is to stay organized, be creative and above all, consistent. Adhere to these simple ideas, and writing will be a pleasure. So what are you waiting for? Go write!
